I recently turned 50. Had you asked me five years ago, I’d have predicted achieving this milestone to be “a big deal”, and perhaps one that would be at least a bit concerning. But these days it honestly feels like just another in a long list of milestones that we experience in life. When you think about it, we’re constantly doing
Jason, a fascinating read. Really interesting to see the twists and turns in someone else's career. I've often thought about those "forks in the road," and how different our paths would be if we had chosen the left instead of the right. Like you, I'm blessed those forks led to a successful path. Life is, indeed, a journey.
Thanks, Fritz! I feel like these are stories we should tell more often as they are rather common and there's much to learn from each other. There are indeed so many decision points in each of our lives and it's impossible to know how things might have gone were different decisions made. But it is certainly fun reviewing one's history and imagining where things could have gone differently!
Jason, once again your thoughts have encouraged me to pause and reflect. Same here - there have been several “career” decisions my spouse and I have each made over the years, and quite honestly we never thought they would have let us to where we are today. It’s been give-and-take for each of us at different times over the years, and it’s lead to such a great place! There’s no doubt navigating those “forks” with my spouse has been a blessing. Thanks for sharing your journey. Once again, it was a great read!
You put yourself in the right place at the right time, and great things happen when we do that. Putting yourself out there is the hardest part of our careers. The fear of rejection is massive and the sooner we get used to it or not fear it, the quicker we learn what we need to focus on to improve. Sounds like you saw an opportunity and went for it. Once you had the success, the ability to know "this is enough" is even a hard step to take. There will always be that one more level, or larger home on the ocean to strive for, the genius is knowing when to focus on quality time and making it a priority. Thanks for sharing jason.
I know it's a cliche, but luck = preparation + opportunity. Your mindset allowed you to recognize good opportunities when they arose and you pounced. Happy belated.

Thanks for sharing, Grant! I'm really glad you liked it. It's pretty wild to look back and look at the winding path that all these decisions enable.
